Outdoor sessions - FAQ

WHY OUTDOOR COUNSELING?

Outdoor counseling is an innovative approach that takes counseling out of the traditional office setting. Clients can benefit from the combination of movement, sunshine, fresh air, and sense of grounding that often come from being outside. For some clients, the idea of walking in parallel with their counselor feels more comfortable than engaging in a more traditional face-to-face session. Finally, outdoor sessions are pet friendly which is a plus for many clients!

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Initial sessions take place inside LifeSpring Covenant Church (743 South Dotsero Drive, Loveland, Colorado, 80537). If you and your counselor determine that outdoor counseling is a good fit for you, you’ll have the option to meet at a mutually agreed upon trailhead or walking path in Loveland for future sessions.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Think comfortable! Wear sturdy shoes and clothes that are easy to walk in. It’s also wise to bring extra layers in the winter and wear sun protection in the summer.

HOW MANY MILES SHOULD I BE PREPARED TO WALK?

You get to set the pace! Some clients choose to spend most of their session seated on a rock or bench while others spend the entire session walking, covering approximately 3 miles. The session is not intended to be a strenuous workout, but if that’s what you need, your counselor will match your pace.

DO YOU OFFER WEEKEND OR EARLY MORNING APPOINTMENTS?

Yes! Appointments are available Tuesday through Saturday including early morning appointments during the summer months. Outdoor sessions are 75 minutes in length.

HOW DO I SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT?

Please call 970-218-7174 to request a free 15-minute phone consultation. If you reach my voicemail, you can expect a response within 24 hours.

WHat happens if the weather doesn't cooperate?

While Colorado generally has a conducive climate for outdoor sessions, there may be times when the weather will require sessions to be moved inside. In those cases, your counselor will communicate with you via text, and together you'll decide whether to brave the weather or move your session indoors. When outdoor sessions are moved inside, the 75 minute session length remains the same.

WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL AN APPOINTMENT?

Please notify your counselor at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment if you need to cancel or reschedule.

WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT ARE ACCEPTED?

Payment is due at the beginning of each session via cash, check, or credit card. You may leave a credit card on file for ongoing payments, if you would like. If your insurance company provides out of network benefits for therapy, your counselor can provide you with a superbill.
